  1. It's all I wanted to do, personally. My life plan was pilot -> test pilot -> NASA. Family was very supportive, sent me to space camp, made sure I studied my math and science, even made the political connections to help get me a nomination to USAFA. Then when I was 16 I failed the vision test to get my license and found out I needed glasses. I'd never really considered the idea that I wouldn't succeed, so finding out that I couldn't reach my goal through no fault of my own was pretty crushing. Everything went downhill from there… cavete terrae.
  2. That's the way I do it. And that makes it right. Opinions are like orgasms: I'm happy if you have one, but only mine actually matters cavete terrae.
  3. I think you mean "…" not "...", as three full stops is not actually the same as an ellipsis. cavete terrae.
  4. Charisma has never been a problem for him. Integrity, good decisions, being a good human on the other hand… cavete terrae.
  5. "Fuck you" --Most of the United States of America. cavete terrae.
  6. This. A hundred times this. When I click on something on a news site and they want me to watch a video instead of getting me an article? FUCK YOU. Efficiency is everything. cavete terrae.
  7. I thought this thread was going to be about protecting myself from the government, based on the title. cavete terrae.
  8. There are plenty of suitable times to compare things to the Nazis, this one I have a hard time swallowing. Comparing the US' treatment of "terrorists" to the early days of scapegoating the jews? Totally justifiable. Comparing modern western police forces and behaviors to the SS? Borderline, but I'll allow it. This? Not so much. cavete terrae.
  9. Unfortunately, he already DID reproduce. cavete terrae.
  10. Hollywood managed to offend an entire country (Canada) by playing so loose with the facts. Breaking news: people offended by movies not being 100% accurate need to get laid. They are, of course, welcome to make their own movie. cavete terrae.
  11. One of the most ridiculous things out there. My favorite is "I'm not a smoker, I only smoke when I drink" "I'm not a child abuser, I only beat kids when I'm drunk" cavete terrae.
  12. Only wore a tuxedo twice in my life - the prom, and my wedding. I only pull out my suit for funerals and weddings, but its been a while since I last used it and it doesn't really fit my shoulders anymore. I got a little bit broader there. I skipped prom and I'm unmarried for life, I think I've permanently dodged the tuxedo! cavete terrae.
  13. Wearing a suit may not be comfortable, but damn does it ever make a guy look handsome! Fair enough… such a pain, though. Not only are they expensive, they require special care AND they're uncomfortable. One of the many reasons I dodge weddings and funerals (only been to one of each in my entire life)! cavete terrae.
  14. Well… I dunno. As a pretty hardcore libertarian I think the overwhelming majority of laws are complete horseshit. If a law makes sense I'll obey it but I'd also behave the same if the law didn't exist. There's a law here saying everyone must wear helmets on their bicycle, even adults. Is it a good idea? Sure. Does it need to be a law? No. Almost my entire adult life has been dedicated to the judiciary so I've seen lots of laws come and go. I'm reminded of John Adams' quote “a nation of laws, not of men" often.

  16. That was not a happy movie The song used at the end is one of my favorite recent pieces, though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8W44OvV8mQ cavete terrae.

  18. Same reason the twatwaffles in their bimbo-box SUVs think they're invincible: All wheel drive fixes EVERYTHING! cavete terrae.
  19. Oh dang, I wanna watch that because it has Scarlett in it cavete terrae.
  20. The F&F movies are pure entertainment, I love them I haven't seen the others, but shall check 'em out. cavete terrae.
  21. Your girlfriend is a cosplay Queen, dont be dissing "dressing up" Playing dress-up and getting dressed up are wildly different cavete terrae.
  22. For me a standout would be Oblivion. Tom Cruise is a nutball but I don't hold it against him, he makes fun films. I wasn't expecting much out of this, but found it to be beautifully shot, well edited, and had one of the best scores I've heard in my life. It wasn't without flaws (I don't want to get into spoilers, but there was an entire action scene that I could have done without), but it was just really damned enjoyable! cavete terrae.
  23. The Tree of Life: I love Terrence Malick, but sweet baby jesus what the fuck was this? It was beautifully shot, but that's all it had going for it. Total Recall remake: I'm easy to please when it comes to brainless action movies, but not even Kate Beckinsale's ass in tight pants could save this tripe. The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford: Some of it was very pretty, but it was exceptionally tedious. It really needed someone with a substantially shorter attention span in the edit bay. cavete terrae.
