Commercial parachuting services vs. parachuting clubs
grue replied to peckerhead's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know how to spot my wingsuit. I live in fear of the day that I'm asked to JM a Grand Caravan load and put the first group out 2.5 miles past the pit I learned my lesson about "trusting the spot" at my first dz, we let a newbie spot and then dove out after him. When I looked down and saw highway, I said "oh hell no" and pulled at 9,000. Nobody else noticed until about 4,000' apparently cavete terrae. -
No, my father is a writer cavete terrae.

A couple months ago I was shutting down my MP3 player after a workout and I happened to look at the screen to see the title of the song that was playing. The J. Geils Band song was titled "Must Of Got Lost." I think it's an indexing problem, not a band problem, because when I look on the band's site it's called "Musta Got Lost." I can only hope they wanted "Musta" to be a contraction of "Must Have." cavete terrae.

a few more, car-related: Rims and wheels are not the same thing. You bought new wheels, not new rims, unless you replaced the outermost piece of your multipart wheels, where the tire is mounted. Spoilers and wings are not the same thing, either. If it is meant to generate downforce, it's a wing. If it's meant to disrupt airflow to keep a car's overall shape from generating lift (e.g., on the Audi TT, or the Beetle Turbo), it's a spoiler. cavete terrae.

It's marginally more annoying than the assholes who don't use their turn signals, think that the passing lane is for cruising (if you aren't passing, GET THE FUCK OVER!), who think their reflexes are good enough to stop a 5000lb SUV with "all season tires" before I can stop a 2800lb car with season-specific tires. Oh, and the numbnut fucks who drive around with their fog lights on when there is no fog, or the fuckstains who don't have their headlights aimed correctly. cavete terrae.

Oh, and more: e.g. and i.e. If you don't know what they mean, please... PLEASE learn them if you want to use them! Effect and affect. loose/lose there/then of/have, in the context of "I could of gone to the party"… it's "I could have…" "I could care less" cavete terrae.

Don't forget "your/you're/yore" "Brake/break" There's no such word as bumber. Nor ludacris. Ridiculous doesn't have an "e" in it, anywhere. Wreckless driving is not a crime. In fact, driving without wrecks is good. Reckless driving, on the other hand, is bad. cavete terrae.

I always do. Surprised it took you this long to realize it. I'll get you next time, Gadget! cavete terrae.

Commercial parachuting services vs. parachuting clubs

dunno, but it's pretty spot-on with a lot of it. It freaks me out that some people don't know how to spot cavete terrae. -
There is not much on this planet worth $475 per hour, insofar as I can figure. On that short list, you sure as hell won't find paying some asshole to do some paperwork. The fact that you can't do anything without a lawyer these days makes me sick. Not to mention half of 'em can't write something without leaving loopholes easier to get through than the US-Mexico border. cavete terrae.

Bryan Burke - SDAZ 270 Policy notes
grue replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How do you feel about someone flying their canopy right at you and then turning a 180 at the last possible moment. Under SDAZ's policies this is an accepted maneuver over their north landing area. How could that be possible unless someone sets up for a VERY off-target landing? Correct me if I'm wrong (and I may be), but a swooper is not initiating his 180 at the same point and altitude that a non-swooper is somewhere actually on his final leg, is he? There'd be too much altitude loss for the 180° turner to complete the turn and make it back to the target, if the non-swooper is doing a standard 1000/600/300 pattern, or anything like it. cavete terrae. -
Bryan Burke - SDAZ 270 Policy notes

Ok, non-swooper entering the discussion, so hold your fire. I realize this is a rather bizarre suggestion, but since for some people the lack of hop 'n' pops seems to be the main issue, is there any reason this wouldn't work? Here's my idea: The main issue with swoop hop 'n' pops seems to be the fact that you have to make multiple passes to give people the ability to set up and separately cleanly. Is there any reason you couldn't do it in a single pass with a tail exit plane in the fastest safe climb the plane can do? First person exits directly over his setup point, next person gets out a few seconds later so is further, but higher so he can get there, and so on until everyone is out and in a clean stack like you'd see being used in an air traffic control situation. You could even organize this by wingload and turn type so people could truly just initiate one-after-the-other and come down safely in a controlled manner. If this were done right (in my mind), you'd almost have to work at getting a collision intentionally to cause one. cavete terrae. -
I've got a couple of rides on mine, very smooth and predictable. cavete terrae.

My ex and I were both pool lifeguards a while back, and if she caught me looking at another girl, she'd smack me on the chest. I thought it was funny (I'm 11 inches taller than her, and about 110lbs heavier. She's not doing any damage), so I didn't mind. One day though I was pretty sunburned, so I blocked a smack and she got mad at me for a minute because the block hurt cavete terrae.

Like I said above, only if my actual life was in danger for me. If it means a few bruises or whatever, fine, I'll just try and restrain her. But in the unlikely event that I actually think I might get killed and can't escape, yeah, I'm going to defend my life. cavete terrae.

Whoops, I mentally combined a couple posts there. Fixed that cavete terrae.

For me, I couldn't do it unless I was truly in danger and cornered or something. I mean absolutely no other way of assuring that I'm not going to be killed, last resort. Otherwise, I just couldn't do it. Guess it was just the way I was brought up, to respect women and never hit 'em cavete terrae.

Do you think it's acceptable to physically strike a woman, and if so, under what circumstances? Open hand, closed hand, whatever. cavete terrae.

Bah, it was almost 4 in the morning, I'm forgiving my own typo Good to know though, I'm gonna keep looking into this. cavete terrae.

You'll be able to walk back to the messhall for KP. I've never heard of anybody enlisting, going to OCS/OTS and not getting the MOS they wanted, then being able to just ditch their contract. The way it was explained to me is that you get the acceptance to OTS, and THEN enlist. That could be totally wrong, however. Realistically, I'm not sure I'd be willing to sign away ten years of my life anyway, it's something I'd have to think long and hard about. cavete terrae.
