How scared/nervous were you before your first jump...
Bip replied to chris_uk's topic in Introductions and Greets
Hi there Ladydyver, me and ray2506 plan to spend the first 2 weeks of december at lake wales. If you are around then, please say hello. We will be easy to spot. we look like Laurel & hardy. Ray will be doing AFF while I get recertified -
I quit 10 months ago after smoking hard core for 32 years. Every time I really needed a cigarette I reminded myself that I was no longer a smoker. I found quitting far easier than I was led to belive. It is all in the mind.

10 years since I jumped. What would you do?
Bip replied to Bip's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanx for all the encouraging advice. For some reason I had the impression that to start jumping again would be a bureaucratic nightmare. You have all made me feel so much better about turning up at a DZ. :) I also noticed that several people mentioned being nervous before their first jump after a long layoff. What a relief, I had butterflies just posting here. :) Anyway, I will turn up at a DZ with an open mind and see what happens. I'll let you all know how it goes. -

Hi, it has been about 10 years since I jumped. I have a couple of weeks free so I thought I would make a jump or two and see if it is something I want to get back into. A tandem jump is not an option to me. Static line or AFF is what im thinking off but im not rich. The plan is to turn up at a british DZ and take a static line course. Unfortunatly I cannot find my logbooks after jump no. 660 in 1990. I have 1357 jumps in all.I have all my license cards that show I had a D license, TI, Instructor etc in 1995. Here is my dilemma. Do I just take the static line course and keep quiet about having jumped before or do I let them know? Im not a knowitall kind of guy so I think I could pull it off and pretend I have never jumped. On the other hand If I let them know would/could they move me through the system faster? What do you think? -
Oh god!! I've got a cuddle bitch.

I used to have an acute sence of smell before I started smoking a lot. I could pretty well tell when someone had sex the night before. I can still tell when a girl has her period most of the time.

46 nothing but a smile.

Use the time to learn to pack and get your packing license.

I think it should depend on how much the rental costs. If it is rented for non profit (covers gear depreciation + replacement) then I think the rentee should pay for anything that gets lost. Conversly, if the rig operates on a profit then I think the DZ should cover anything that gets lost.

I do it all the time. The only times I have refused is when I dont have any money with me. Im sure I have been scammed lots of times, but I like to think that if I have helped at least one person then its worth it.

It was on the news a lot with pictures. I think most Norwegians would have recognised it for what it was.

About $1.5 for a litre here in Norway.

Dumbest thing my brother did was to mount a pc upside down on his rig when converting from boc to pull out. took him 2 jumps and a reserve ride to figure it out.

I used to suffer from road rage. One day on my way to Oslo airport (I used to work there) I came up to this queue on the motorway going about 40km. This was really fustrating as I hated the 1 1/2 hour drive to work everyday. After sitting in the queue for about 15 mins I was really fuming. Eventually I came to a hill top and could see the cause of the problem. It was an uniformed police car going at just under the speed limit. This of course caused the tailback. Of course nobody dared to pass and risk getting a fine. I could not stand it anymore so I drove up the fast lane and passed the cop. I then put my emergency blinkers on and signalled for him to stop. As soon as he stopped behind me. I got out and walked over to him and gave him a lecture about causing queues on the motorway. At first the policeman could not belive he was pulled over to get a lecture and soon became as angry as I was. Luckily, after a few choice words each way we calmed down and parted on fairly amicable terms. I did get a stern warning that it was not my job to police the police and if I did it again he would arrest me.

Open container in the plane, what would you do?
Bip replied to AggieDave's topic in Safety and Training
With a C-206, If the door is closed and my container opens, my practice has been to pack it then jump. Or if the plane does not have a door and the pc is secure I have still packed and jumped. If it is a reserve open or an un experienced jumper then the procedure has been for the plane to land with all jumpers. Regardless, the door is never opened if there is an open parachute in the aircraft. I was in a C-207 without a door once when a belly reserve opened. Even without a pilot chute the reserve made straight for the door. Luckily the apex lines (at the top of the canopy) caught on the door hinge and the jump master was quick to lie on top of the lines. the canopy was outside the aircraft. The pilot then made a very quick decent and landed on a road. I have not jumped since 1996 so things are probably very different now.
