  1. Yea, like I said I was not saying you did something wrong. I guess I just felt like running my mouth for a minute. I am not the most articulate person and did not want the post to come across like I was judging your scenario, nor is it my place to do so.
  2. Does anyone get the NHL package with their cable provider? I am curious as to what they are charging for the shorter season.
  3. *disclaimer, I am not knocking you. I would have done the same thing if I could not see anything* I have lost goggles and if I would have just pulled immediately I would have placed myself and others at serious risk. It was a 8 way and I was part of the base and we have yet to link up for the first point so I did not really know where three people were exactly (my back and feet were pointed up jump run so the other jumpers were somewhere up and behind me on their way to their slot). So I did what I was taught and that was to fly outside the formation and point to your malfunction and it worked, it let everyone know why I was no longer participating Before I get flamed, I could still see good enough to see my alti, horizon, terrain and other jumpers. To be honest, losing my goggles really was not a big deal. Shit - there are some old timers out there that never wear goggles. It has been beat in my head that if you can dive the plan then do so! Anyway, situation dictates and if I could not see I would have probably done something different. Take that like a grain on salt, it is definitely not advice. I just feel there needs to be good reason to deviate from the plan or to wildly pitch a pilot chute.
  4. Thank you Ian....The explanations make alot of sense and are very clear.
  5. It's unrealistic to expect that. We become friends with people. We're gonna miss them when they're gone. Fatalities are terrible things and almost always preventable. Prevention is what keeps me working so hard as an instructor. Some people, unfortunately, don't want to be helped. Stubborn. You're a good dude John! I look forward to meeting you someday. Your comments are always respectable and of good nature and generally have insight and knowledge. You and a few others seem to be good mentors. I look forward to cross paths with you and take the opportunity to learn something some day!
  6. I hate your type. The kind to make assumptions on scene and act like your actions are solely for yourself. I was in a live tissue course where we would be presented with a pig or goat that was shot with multiple shotgun rounds (8 to 10), 9mm rounds and mass blunt force trauma. I could not tell if it was a goat or a pig for the first hr or so. We keeped that goat alive for four hrs untill the simulated medevac came. Your are not a Dr and you can't declare anyone dead. Do your job and shut your mouth.
  7. I have an older oxygen a3 and I just bought a replacment lens via chutingstar and it is tight but still works fine. You can always try them.
  8. No. Just before the canopy goes in the bag, the nose is down, the tail is on top. If you run the lines at that point, they're as straight as in a pro-pack, no 90-degree twists. Mark Thanks Mark.
  9. I had some army SF guys that only knew how to flat pack ask me if I would pack for them one day and they mentioned they did not like the flat pack because it opened with a 90 degree off heading opening because of the way the canopy was placed in the bag. I never flat packed before and was wondering if there was any truth to that statement?
  10. Good point, thanks. I never thought about the length of slack changing due to tension in the harness. It definitly makes sense though. Dumb as this may sound, I thought the slack was there to allow some momentum when pulling the handle. I never claimed to be smart!
  11. I would think that after ~500 feet of snivel you are not going to slow down anymore and are just wasting altitude. Am I way off on this thought? I have no electronics to verify this as I only jump with an analog and a Dytter.
  12. So, there is no way to see the documentary unless you were at the boogie? I like watching documentaries but I do not understand the concept of filming them and then not making them available. R/S, John
  13. As for the guess (Pops), are you suggesting that the wind against my back will change my pitch? Im kinda stretching here.. Think! When going in the same direction as the wind. Will you feel the wind against your back or front? oooww.. I see, your saying that the relative wind is always a factor no mater the wind at your back...i think I got it now..
  14. As for the guess (Pops), are you suggesting that the wind against my back will change my pitch? Im kinda stretching here..
  15. I fully expected itan't count the number of times I've had that conversation....always with "experienced" jumpers...even 2 AFFI. I'll bite and I need all the help I can get! So why does the wind against my back prove to be a problem when I'm upwind and trying to max my distance? Thanks!
  16. Note to all in Cali - waivers won't cover "gross negligence," which is "an extreme departure from the ordinary standard of conduct." While I'm no tandem master, I think that a woman falling ass first out of a harness ON EXIT shows a pretty extreme departure. If something worse had happened, that video... I feel for the cameraman. I'm thinking that cameraman knew he was watching someone who was going to die. I knew she lived but in watching the video I thought "She's going to die." I'm GLAD this video is out there. This is what I was saying in my prior post. The DZ is getting their money regardless at that point, so why even force her out? I don't get it..
  17. I really did not think she was going to stay in the harness at deployment. Is it legal to force a tandem student out the door if they decide they don't want to jump (even if its already jump run)? How about the waivers still being valid when the jumper is no longer participating at will and being forced out the door? Had she died, a wuffo would have viewed her actions at the door as she did not want to jump and she changed her mind. I think it is amusing to watch a student being pushed or pulled (aff) of the aircraft, al beit I am not so sure how smart it is to post it online. There could have been some stock footage thrown on there right to the point they roll out the door.
  18. I have a sabre with an H-mod on it and it opens nice. I bought it with the modification already done but was told it costs about 150 dollars.
  19. Good luck... "We stand on the shoulders of giants." I personally think his attitude alone shows the changing times of this sport, successful or not, I like this guy's will to break a barrier. We can debate all day long on what is a 'true' landing and what is not, but the fact is that this guy is doing something different and a bunch of different will eventually bring new boundaries.
  20. The Call of the Wild
  21. tr See! There is great advice offered online! If Pops says so...it's in stone. In all honesty, lets learn alot, make few mistakes and have fun. Nothing more is of importance..
