I'm in a great deal of pain still from this weekends events. A fellow jumper at our dz bought a heatwave 170 but hasn't been able to jump it because he broke his ankle. So he he offered it to me and i thought it would be fun seeing as i'm going to start demoing eliptical canopies this season. so we hook it up, go up to 7, i dump at 5 and WHAMMMMM instant canopy. To add to the spanking both end cells were closed. Those didn't inflate until about 2grand when i decided to stop dicking around with them and set up an aproach and find the stall point. When i stalled one came open, then i figured out how to make the other one inflate. So ok, must have been a packing error. Pack it up again, roll the nose about 3 times, go up to 10 do a 4 way, i break at 4,5 and pull. the F*$ker opened harder than the first time! Saw stars so awhile, kinda regained my senses and went to deal with the end cell problem again. Our pilot had watched the opening from the plane and felt sorry for me. He's a rigger so he packed it for me. Went up to 10 again, did a 3 way, pulled at 4,5 and got maybe a 1/10th of a second of snivel before the damn thing popped open on me again. then only one of the endcells inflated so i had to deal with a spinning canopy. I've never had such hard openings. Not even on my sabre. After those 3 jumps i called it a day. sunday i hooked back up my sabre and enjoyed my 800ft snivles. don't know what is was, i've heard good things about the heat wave, but damn it's going to take me this week to recover for sure blue 's chris

Kansas State University has a parachute club. We had 2 FF teams at collegiates in Eloy and then some of our other members just came down to fun jump. We don't have a 4 way team or anything, but our club is pretty large. We flew 550 loads last year, pretty good for a single cessna DZ. That we know of, our club is also the only collegiate club that owns and operates our own DZ. We were established in 1962 and still going strong. www.ksu.edu/ksupc blue 's chris -
nope sorry, no video of the highway test. I have pics of the jump, but they are too large to upload. you can see the pics below. I made another jump on it last night and it didn't go as smooth as the first one. Had a spin to it and wasn't inflated all the way... Gonna have to do some more work to figure out what happen. The pictures before are of the first one. www.ksu.edu/ksupc/images/tube1.jpg www.ksu.edu/ksupc/images/tube2.jpg www.ksu.edu/ksupc/images/tube3.jpg www.ksu.edu/ksupc/images/tube4.jpg

you've been stalking me? Oh no!!! BTW Case o Beer for you first post! blue 's Chris -
Well in this case if Shaun is talking about me... I have hammered into my students that you should not turn low, dont find yourself in a position that you have to turn into the wind and turn too low. It is always better to take it downwind or crosswind for that matter than risking a low turn. I found myself in a situation where I was low, front risered it, pulled myself out of the corner and walked away without noticing how low i was. It wasn't until i saw the video and a fellow jumper sent me an email reminding me to watch my alt. I sent an email out to all the jumpers whom saw me make that radical turn, including Shaun apoligizing and reenforming the fact that low turns hurt and they should not be done carelessly. So in my case, not only did I talk to others to realize what I did wrong, but I informed those whom may look up to me, not to do such a thing and that i had made a bad call and could have been in the hospital. I'm human and i make mistakes, but i am a bigger man because i admit to the mistakes and try to teach others from my mistakes while i can. Blue 's chris

i thought it came from the movie dropzone right?!?!?!?
-
Umm ok where the hell did that come from? I guess i'm just lucky enough to actually be able to jump after work, so sometimes i have to bring my rig into work so i can make the first load at 6pm and not have to pack at the dz when i get there. and unlike you, i don't have a cool skydiving picture on my laptop. i sport incubus instead.

To add to my stupid co-worker incedent, he has come up to me today and said "Chris, btw, my mother said if you every speak to me again about skydiving, she's going to kill you. Not only kill you, put cut you up into pieces so they can't find you and you won't skydive anymore" WTF?!?!?! I swear I just wanted to smack the little shit. He thinks he's all big and bad, I straight up told him. Do not threaten me and even if you wanted to skydive I'll make sure you don't jump at my dropzone or any other in the USA! I've already blackballed him in Kansas. Anyone want his email address to bug the shit out of him Stupid prick Chris

Giving up your life to skydive full-time

hahah haven't you seen the movie cutaway lol blue 's -
It is 13inches in diameter and about 12 feet long. Just a beginner tube as I'm just a beginner to it I'll put a couple more jumps on it and then make a 20 footer. The only thing I'd change is making the end a little smaller than the opening because it's wasn't as sturdy as I would have liked it. The end flopped around and didn't fully inflate. I'll get the video on here sometime this week. Blue 's Chris

I jumped the tube yesterday, it was awesome! Not a problem at all. easy to hang on to, easy to deploy with and all. I'm glad I put the pivoting handle on it though because the tube did have a slow spin to it all I accelerated. It sure as hell slowed me down enough. i was sitting with the belly fliers. Now that I've done it once I'm open for questions about it or how to build the tube seeing as it worked chris

the X is made of out doubled over webbing. 500lbs per piece, box stiched in the middle with a 1/2 inch gramet going thru it. it's more sturdy than it was in the first place. i'm no rigger so i can' tell you what type of fabric it was, but it's the same stuff as what the static lines are made from, only it's an inch wide. chris

Here are the pictures of the tube, handle sytem (pivoting) and anti pilot chute screening . if you have any questions feel free to PM me. the handle cost me 7 bucks at the hardware store, the mesh 99 cents at walmart and to get it it all put together I took it to a shoe repair shop and they attached the X and put the eyelet thru the middle. total cost for the new attachment system was 19 dollars.

Well I'm no expert of it, I'm going to be making my first jump on one this weekend, but looking at the aspects involved I would say atleast your D license and a majority of those being freefly jumps. Again jump numbers don't mean anything, but I think with the requirements of the D, if you have to land in a tighter spot becuase you chased it down, or having more people in the air with you while you are just the tubes bitch, having the air time is a key. I have about 335 jumps, of witch 275 are probably freefly jumps. I have jumps toys before, but didn't start till I have well over 200 and even then it scared the poopie out of me. To put it best, I wouldn't suggest jumping a tube until you are stable in a sit, sideways, on your back, upside down, in a spike etc. The tube will have a mind of it's own and you won't really be able to use your one arm. I don't know, I say be a good freeflier and be able to stay pretty stable given the lack of use of your hands. The other thing to watch for is the opening. I'll be jumping it on a sabre 170, stable, docile canopy that won't (or shouldn't) cause any spin while the tube is in the lines. I guess though the main thing to remember is, if shit goes bad, let go, it's not worth trying to hang onto. And may I sugesst a pivoting handle so it doesn't spin up on you Blue ones, sorry about the lack of advice. It's best to get with people who know your flying skills and ask them, I don't want to give the wrong impression chris

Yeah I pack at work between calls or on my break etc. I work for SBC Yahoo! that everyone hates. If anyone needs to know how to get rid of all the yahoo stuff, ie connection manager, yahoo components and stuff like that, there is just one simple program that you need to connect to dsl. PM me your operating system and if you want your phone number as well and I can look it up in the system and see if I can up your speed on the rback chris
