"get out of my head" I just logged on to do that. It's official. 6:30/7ish. Gingerman in Houston. If you're not in Houston, start driving/flying now. Cheers. Larry -- 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

I've discovered one of the reasons we haven't seen Ann Poblenz at a DZ near us. She's been job hunting. And she found one in Seattle, Washington . She is now in the process of moving and leaves the 17th (Wednesday). Who's up for a farewell "happy few hours" at the Gingerman man on Friday?? Betcha I can get her to meet me for a drink unsuspecting, since I already told her it's kinda late to be getting a happy hour together. What do ya think? "Well Mom, it took a LOT of doing. And I had to pull a LOT of strings. But I've arranged to have your BD party AT NASA !! Not only that but I've got a bunch of my friends jumping in especially for you.". And I'll personally tell her how you spent outrageous amounts of money to make it happen. Cheers. Latest info on Hotels: mmmm..... Friday night pool party !! (I'm guessing there's a pool). Still looking for players. I've got a list of 20 people that say we can have more FUN than any other team of 20. Edited to correct hotel address. -- 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock -
Skydive Spaceland--Looking for a jumping buddy

That plus I tell about how BB got the ideal that people could actually touch in freefall and organized the 1st 8 man formation, and then about his subsequent demise and the origination of this award in his honor. Not that the recipient is going to be able to register the information while suffering through the beer premi's, at least I didn't, I learned it while waiting to pour on other recipients as I listened to the speaker. Oh well.... looks like that version of the ceremony is going the way of TeXXas 20way. -- 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock -

Would that be the "actually tell the story behind the reward" ceremony? Or the "everybody just scream at the maggets" ceremony? I gotta admit I was rather suprised at how few people knew when to participate and WHEN NOT TO at the Skyfest ceremony. Cheers. Larry Edited to add: Oh yeah, and someone tried to hand me a script. If you don't know the story you shouldn't be telling it, and if you listen, you'll know the story. -- 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock -

I met Egon at Skyfest briefly. I don't think I met Piers, Krystal or Bruno. My deepest sympathies to the families. I'll be toasting them tonight. Blue Skies/Black Death. Larry

Check your bank statement. They clear pretty quickly. To anyone that has not yet particpated in Ballunar, DO IT. (if your qualified of course). This is a fun weekend for meeting jumpers, seeing oldtime friends, having a few drinks, ('few' is a relative term), a few laughs, a few jumps. And, BONUS, you get to jump into Space Center Houston. And as Chuck explained to newbie me years ago "At a demo, from the time you land until you strip your gear..... YOU ARE A GOD!". So come sacrifice yourself for the entertainment of others. Cheers. Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock -
Congrats on your 1st cutaway. I'll look you up on Sat. and congratulate you in person. I am not questioning your decision in any way shape or form. However I would like to point out to some of those that have posted that landing a canopy using the rear risers is really no big deal, IF YOU PRACTICE! Steering with the risers is definitly different than steering with the toggles, but you won't know unless you practice. And it's MUCH easier to stall your canopy with the rears. But practicing will teach you where that stall point is. Practice up high, and then bring it down when you safely can. Don't wait until you NEED to, do it because it's a good thing to know when you need it. I personaly am not going to chop a canopy I can land with the rear risers because reserves do mal on occasion. My reserve is my last resort, just like jumpergirl.

How's the runway?

I don't understand. Are you saying it's up to JUST the riggers that work with the gear, and JUST the packers that pack it to identify potential problems and work on getting them resolved? What about the pilot ? Edited to add: Or pilots as the case may be. Cheers. Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

now THAT'S funny.

Convince me to visit your dz for a week!!
Luminous replied to WrongWay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A very cool DZ with lots of fun people that make the visit GREAT! mecca? No. At 18 or so jumps you are not qualified to bestow mecca status. Eloy. IMO. Cheers. Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock -
So your taking an unfamiliar canopy to an unfamiliar DZ to jump with unfamiliar people? Wouldn't it be wiser to practice at a less crowed venue? No dig on your skills. Just sounds . Cheers. Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

Highest Number of Jumps Before 1st Cutaway?
Luminous replied to nerd137's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That mean you quit? or should you have put 'so far' after that? "Those that have, those that will" Edited to add: #1426 -
Yes indeed, One TeXXas star as ordered. WOO-HOO !! And not only that, it was Brandy's FIRST 20way and she got to pull from the middle. (Video is cool). And to top it off it was also Dennis' first 20way. I can taste cold beer already! Thanks to all that participated. Cheers Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

I'll tell em. If things work good this weekend we may even get Brandy her TeXXas star. (but keep it a secret as she thinks that's July). Things at DZ good. Pool is back in action and we had naked women last week. (and of course #1 was Jenn). Later Larry 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock
