TomAiello 26 #126 May 15, 2009 Quote>How serious can people think he is about global warming be if his cabon footprint >is one of the largest in the country and has not done anything to set an example? How seriously can you take a woman who preaches about family values - and got her start in modeling by posing topless? Is she "off limits" because she's a good conservative, but Gore deserves all the hate and dredging through his personal life because he's a liberal? Your double standard is showing. I don't think that's a double standard. The beauty pageant chick was spouting about gay marriage. As far as I can tell, she hasn't participated in any marriage, gay or otherwise. And I think it's likely she's only going to participate in a straight marriage. The only way you can stretch the situation to make them parallel is to somehow equate soft porn type photos with being involved in a homosexual marriage, which is a pretty good reach, even with the most gynmastic of logic. You appear to have made performed those gymnastics through the device of invoking nebulous "family values" and then defining the term for yourself to include both an opposition to gay marriage _and_ an opposition to soft-core hetero porn photos. I am not convinced that the term, as commonly understood or even as invoked by beauty pageant chick, actually covers that second part. Al Gore, on the other hand, is pretty openly railing about exactly the same conduct he's engaged in personally.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
billvon 3,006 #127 May 15, 2009 >I don't think that's a double standard. The post I was replying to was: "they all have the right to thier opinions and did not deserve the hatefull attacks and the investigations into their personal lives just because they had an opinion defferent from the left." If that's the case, then it should apply to both sides. Many people do not think that Prejean's espousal of family values goes well with posing topless to try to get into the modeling business. Many people think that Al Gore's advocacy of reducing carbon emissions is not supported by his lifestyle. And, in both cases, many people think those things are not big issues. So which is it? Is their lifestyle and background off limits or not? Or does it depend on whether you like what they stand for, or think they are being honest or not? Remster 30 #131 November 6, 2009 Yes. Sex is dirty. Geez... You really need to spend more time understanding posts before replying. Hint: Sasha Grey (or even your every day open minded girl) making a sex video does not have the same significance as, mmm, say a wannabe public figure who claims to stand for family and Christian values. PS: you really have no clue about what I think about openness, do you? Remster

billvon 3,006 #138 November 6, 2009 >What about family or christian values says she cannot be sexy? Well, if "sexy" to someone meant dancing nude for underage boys, I suspect even you would think that ran contrary to family values. But that's neither here nor there. She didn't lose her crown because she was sexy (or not sexy, or christian, or family values oriented.) She lost it because she violated the terms of her contract.
