Weather Forecasts?? best info...

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this should be posted here or on the Bonfire thread but it is skydive related. I am patiently working towards graduating AFF and need 5,6 and 7. Weather has been a big issue as I live 2 hrs from the DZ and have been grounded due to wind and clouds on several trips out there. Question is what website in your opinion has proven to be more consistant with wind and cloud predictions (I know they are all predictions so I hold no site accountable). Just trying to get a better idea of how to plan my weekends and save on gas.

btw I have tried Intellicast, WeatherUnderground, and Weather Channel

I realize spending time at the DZ is the best way to learn, and I am not trying to deny that fact. However I work full time as most all of you and I am on call every other weekend...my DZ is 2 hrs away, doesn't work with call. I have a fairly flexible co-worker but I need to let her know early in the week if I am to switch call, and or what day may be better (i.e. Sat or Sun) on any given weekend. Just looking for a better site to help gage thats all. Obviously if time wasn't a factor I would chill at the DZ every weekend to learn and fly, but to stay current with AFF it helps to have tools on my side to plan weekends around call and other obligations out of my control.

As NWFlyer said US Airnet is really good. I find their wind forecasts to be a little low most of the time. www.wunderground.com is also excellent and actually provides a wealth of information if you dig a little bit. If you're lucky you can find a weather site reporting that is close to your dropzone and view real time info on what they call "rapid fire"
Wunderground's weather history information is unbeatable. Their database goes back many years.
Get your pilot's license and you can have access to tons of info beyond the scope of this post.
